Who I am

WHO I AM

My journey to landscape architecture has been a long and winding one. Having already worked for 20 years in product and service design, advertising, and brand consultancy—the majority of which has been in the US—I understand the business of creativity. I’ve learned how to collaborate across disciplines and get the best out of a team—especially when they’re stuck. I’ve learned how to create compelling narratives and elegant strategic frameworks. I’ve learned how to spot a big idea and ensure that work lives up to its ambition. In short, I know what it takes to get good work done, from big picture to fine grain.

My mission now is to use these skills for the real love of my life (my family notwithstanding): creating a more resilient and restorative environment, in which all living creatures and can thrive.

WHAT I BELIEVE

Delight in the details

People live in places, not plans so sweat the specifics. Make material choices—hard and soft, blue, green, and grey—that are resilient, responsible and resonant.

Write new chapters for old stories

The places we design are part of a continuity. We have a duty to reach back and build upon what has come before so that we can face the future with confidence, knowing that they should and will outlast us

Let the land lead

Nature won’t tell us what to do, but if we ask the right questions and pay attention, the land—and those living upon it—will give us clues as how to design boldly, empathetically, and sustainably.
